Three times as many visually impaired people in 2050

In 2017, a study funded by the Brien Holden Vision Institute and published in The Lancet Global Health, a British scientific and medical journal, garnered a lot of attention. This makes an alarming forecast: the number of blind and partially sighted people in the world could triple by 2050. But what has happened since then? Let's take stock.

Visual disability and work, solutions exist

According to the 2023 Agefiph study, the number of visually impaired people in France, i.e. people who have a lot of difficulty seeing or cannot see at all, would be estimated at 1.8 million. Of these people, half are of working age. However, only 2 out of 5 people with visual disabilities have a job, according to the largest French study conducted on the DV population: the Homer study.
